Yusuf Maitama Tuggar has met with the leadership of the Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries in Abuja.
The talks focused on Nigeria’s possible move from observer status to full membership.
The Secretary-General of the council, Izzana Salleh, led the visiting delegation.
Both sides agreed to begin consultations with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.

These discussions will define Nigeria’s formal pathway into the organization.
The council welcomed Nigeria’s interest and promised technical and policy support.
Officials said palm oil diplomacy now shapes global economic and environmental debates.
Nigeria aims to play a stronger role in sustainable palm oil production worldwide.
The move also supports national goals on food security and industrial growth.
Membership would strengthen cooperation among major palm oil producing nations.
