Since January 2025, the Nigeria Police Force has promoted 74,352 officers in a massive nationwide exercise.
Addressing recent public criticism, Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun firmly denied any “promotion scandal,” maintaining that the process was rooted in merit rather than favoritism.
The promotions spanned the entire hierarchy, from high level leadership to junior personnel.
IGP Kayode Egbetokun dismissed allegations of irregularities as “falsehoods” intended to undermine the police institution. He emphasized that the exercise serves three primary goals.
Recognizing the hard work of dedicated officers, Ensuring the right people are in command roles and Improving the Force’s overall capacity to maintain law and order.
IGP Kayode Egbetokun reiterated There is no promotion scandal,what we have is a system that rewards diligence, professionalism, and proven capacity.”
