The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has warned Nigerians to stay away from fallen live wires and electrocuted persons.

In a public safety advisory, the Commission stressed that electricity can pass instantly from a live wire or victim to anyone who touches them with bare hands.

“Never touch a live wire or an active victim with your bare hands,” NERC stated.

The regulator urged witnesses to keep a safe distance and avoid impulsive rescue attempts. Instead, it advised the public to report such incidents immediately to the nearest electricity distribution company (DisCo).

According to NERC, trained professionals have the right equipment to handle electricity-related emergencies safely. The Commission added that staying calm and informed can prevent avoidable deaths.
