A brand-new maternity centre has been commissioned in Ihima, Kogi State, as part of the 46th birthday celebrations of Senator Natasha H. Akpoti-Uduaghan. The facility, unveiled under her personal initiative themed “Gratitude by Gifting,” aims to expand access to maternal and child healthcare in the community.

Announcing the development on her verified social media account on Tuesday, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan said the project was conceived as a way of giving back and expressing gratitude for the support she has received over the years.

“And a brand new maternity center for my community… that’s how we wrap up my 46th birthday celebrations themed ‘Gratitude by Gifting,’” she wrote.

The newly completed centre is expected to serve hundreds of women in the area, offering antenatal, delivery and postnatal services, alongside routine healthcare for newborns and young children.

Community members described the project as timely, noting persistent gaps in maternal health infrastructure across rural parts of Kogi State. Stakeholders say the centre will help reduce maternal mortality rates and ease the burden on existing healthcare facilities.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central in the National Assembly, has in recent months undertaken several community-focused projects, including school refurbishments, market support schemes and youth empowerment programmes.

The commissioning of the maternity centre marks the latest addition to her constituency development efforts and concludes a series of activities held in celebration of her 46th birthday.
