The proposed Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway has continued to generate debate over transparency and governance.

Civic group Tracka says several concerns around the project remain unresolved.

Tracka noted that the total cost of the project remains unclear.

It also raised concerns about limited public disclosure regarding the procurement process.

The group said this lack of clarity makes it difficult to assess value for money.

Furthermore, the project has led to demolitions along parts of the corridor.

Affected businesses and residents have raised concerns about compensation and livelihood losses.

Tracka also highlighted potential environmental implications.

These include risks to coastal communities, wetlands, and long-term climate impact.

Experts warn that coastal infrastructure projects require careful ecological planning.

The group questioned the phased commissioning of sections of the highway.

It said this raises issues around political optics versus actual project completion.

In addition, uncertainties remain about the project’s design, scope, and maintenance plan.

Tracka stressed that long-term sustainability must be clearly defined.

The organisation disclosed that it submitted a Freedom of Information request on March 2.

The request was directed to the Federal Ministry of Works through David Umahi.

However, it said no response has been received so far.

Tracka warned that limited transparency could weaken public confidence.

It emphasised that large-scale infrastructure projects must remain open and accountable.

The group called for greater disclosure to ensure that citizens understand the cost, process, and long-term impact.
