The Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) has filed an application at the Court of Appeal, Abuja, seeking permission to challenge a National Industrial Court ruling restraining it from embarking on industrial action.
The application was filed by JUAC Chairman Riftkatu Iortyer and Secretary Abdullahi Saleh through their counsel, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, alongside other senior lawyers.
The union leaders are asking the appellate court to stay execution of the January 27 ruling by Justice Emmanuel Subilim pending determination of the appeal, arguing their case raises substantial legal questions with strong prospects of success.
The dispute stems from an ongoing indefinite strike by FCTA workers over unresolved welfare and labour issues, which has disrupted activities across government offices in Abuja.
The National Industrial Court had ordered workers to suspend the strike, ruling that once a trade dispute is before the court, industrial action must stop until the matter is resolved.
Meanwhile, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has warned that workers who ignore the court order and fail to resume duties will face sanctions.
