The governments of Katsina State and Zamfara State, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), have officially launched a program aimed at supporting internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the region.

The initiative seeks to provide relief and care for individuals and families who were forced to flee their homes due to attacks by armed bandits in Northwest Nigeria.

Officials said the program will focus on addressing immediate humanitarian needs, including shelter, food, healthcare, and psychosocial support, while also promoting community reintegration and resilience for affected populations.

The collaboration between the state governments and UNDP underscores a commitment to tackling the humanitarian impact of insecurity and ensuring that displaced persons receive the necessary assistance to rebuild their lives.

Authorities called on all stakeholders, including local leaders and community members, to support the initiative and help maintain peace, safety, and stability in the affected areas.

The program is expected to serve as a model for coordinated efforts between state governments and international organizations to mitigate the challenges posed by banditry and forced displacement in the region.
