IPOB Suspects Kill Two Police Officers in Enugu

Two police inspectors have been killed following an attack on a patrol team of the Distress Response Squad (DRS) in Enugu State on Friday night.

The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on December 27, 2025, along Zik Avenue near Good Shepherd Specialist Hospital.

Security sources claim the attackers, believed to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN), opened fire on the patrol team while operating in an ash-coloured Lexus RX 350 SUV.

The officers killed were identified as Inspector Valentine Iheme and Inspector Ani Anayo, both attached to the DRS. The attackers reportedly left the scene with three service rifles.

The Enugu State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the suspects and deployed tactical units to track down those involved. The Command assured residents that efforts are ongoing to recover the stolen weapons and restore security in the affected area.

Police authorities vowed that the perpetrators will be apprehended and prosecuted.
