INEC Moves to Strengthen 2027 Procurement Reforms

The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced reforms to strengthen Nigeria’s electoral process ahead of 2027.

INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan said procurement systems will play a key role in credible elections.

He made the remarks during a capacity-building workshop held in Lagos.

The three-day workshop was organised in collaboration with Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung.

INEC said procurement is critical to ensuring transparency, accountability and efficiency in election management.

Amupitan noted that electoral credibility depends on proper planning, logistics and transparent systems.

He said procurement must be treated as a core component of the electoral process.

The Chairman also referenced provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 guiding election timelines.

He said reforms will improve coordination across procurement, logistics and deployment.

INEC released the timetable for the 2027 general elections during the engagement.

Presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16, 2027.

Governorship and State Assembly elections will hold on February 6, 2027.

INEC said early planning will help stakeholders prepare effectively for the elections.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to delivering transparent and credible polls.
