President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said that a credible, secure, and inclusive national identity management system is critical to achieving Nigeria’s development goals.
Speaking at the State House during the official launch of the NIMC NINAuth App, a digital identity authentication platform developed by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), the President said his administration is committed to leveraging technology to enhance transparency, efficiency, and accountability in governance.
Tinubu, represented at the event, described the NINAuth App as a major step toward modernizing Nigeria’s digital public infrastructure and simplifying access to essential services.
“A credible and inclusive National Identity Management System supports financial inclusion, strengthens social welfare delivery, enhances our security architecture, and ensures accurate population data for evidence-based planning,” he said.

He announced that all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) will soon adopt the NINAuth App for staff and data verification, adding that the innovation will help eliminate bureaucratic bottlenecks and reduce opportunities for corruption.
The President noted that the new app will place Nigeria on par with global standards in identity management by providing a secure and verifiable platform for citizens and legal residents to access government and private sector services.
“My fellow Nigerians, the future we seek is one where technology empowers every citizen and where trust in governance is built on efficiency, transparency, and inclusiveness,” he added.
Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, commended the initiative, saying identity management is the backbone of governance, national security, and service delivery.
Director-General of NIMC, Engr. (Dr.) Abisoye Coker-Odusote, explained that the NINAuth App will eliminate multiple identity ownership while offering real-time verification for businesses and institutions.
She disclosed that NIMC has enrolled 126.7 million Nigerians, with 25 million new registrations recorded in the last two years and 1.3 million daily verification hits.
