President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has charged the newly appointed Service Chiefs to decisively confront emerging security threats across the country, declaring that Nigeria cannot afford to let the crisis that began in 2009 continue.

Speaking during the decoration ceremony of the Service Chiefs at the State House, Abuja, on Wednesday, President Tinubu said the ceremony marked a renewed commitment to restoring peace and stability across Nigeria.

Congratulating the Service Chiefs on their appointments and Senate confirmations, the President reminded them that their new positions come with enormous responsibilities that must be carried out with integrity, innovation, and patriotism.

“Today’s ceremony is beyond the symbolism of decoration. It marks the beginning of our renewed effort to ensure the peace and security of all Nigerians. Each of you has been carefully selected for this critical task,” he stated.

President Tinubu emphasized that security remains the foundation for all aspects of development, stressing that no nation can prosper in the absence of peace.

He commended the armed forces for their resilience and sacrifices in reclaiming territories previously occupied by terrorists and restoring peace to several troubled areas.

“I thank our armed forces for their patriotism, diligence, and dedication to duty. As your Commander-in-Chief, I sincerely appreciate your sacrifices, as I have repeatedly acknowledged,” he said.

While acknowledging the progress recorded, President Tinubu noted that new security challenges continue to emerge in parts of the country, including the North-Central, North-West, and South.

He urged the Service Chiefs to act swiftly and decisively to prevent the rise of new armed groups.

“Of grave concern to our administration is the recent emergence of new armed groups. We must not allow these new threats to fester.

We must be decisive and proactive. Let us smash the new snakes right in the head,” he declared.

The President called for greater innovation and use of technology in military operations, urging the leadership of the armed forces to remain ahead of those who threaten national peace and unity.

“I charge you to be innovative, pre-emptive, and courageous. Nigerians expect results, not excuses. We cannot allow the crisis that began in 2009 to persist any longer,” he warned.

President Tinubu pledged his administration’s full support to the military in achieving its mission, assuring that the government would provide all necessary resources to ensure success in the fight against insecurity.

“Let’s stay ahead of those who seek to threaten our peace. I promise to provide all the support you need to get the job done. May God continue to keep our armed forces safe,” he concluded.
