The Federal Government and state governments have agreed to strengthen collaboration in advancing technical and vocational education across the country under the new Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Initiative.

The partnership was reinforced at an interactive meeting convened by the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja, bringing together Executive Secretaries, Permanent Secretaries, and Directors of State TVET Boards and Departments to discuss implementation strategies and coordination frameworks.

Declaring the session open, the Director of Technology and Science Education, Dr. (Mrs.) Adenike Olodo, called on stakeholders to champion a “skills revolution” that will position TVET as the foundation of Nigeria’s industrial and economic transformation.

Dr. Olodo described the initiative as a transformative step toward aligning education with 21st-century economic realities, stressing that its success depends largely on active state-level participation.

“TVET remains the bridge to employment, entrepreneurship, and self-reliance,” she said, emphasizing the need for strong partnerships between government, industry, and development partners.

Representatives from 22 states attended the meeting, which outlined the framework of the new initiative, clarified institutional roles, and discussed monitoring and evaluation strategies.

The Ministry restated its commitment to working with states, private sector actors, and development agencies to build a skilled workforce capable of driving national productivity, innovation, and sustainable development.
