In a renewed bid to fortify Nigeria’s security architecture, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has convened a high-level strategic meeting involving members of the Council of State and the Police Council, slated for Thursday, October 9, 2025.

According to a statement signed by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations, the meeting will adopt a hybrid format, bringing together key national figures both physically and virtually at the Council Chambers, Aso Villa.

The Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Affairs Office, Emanso Umobong, noted that the gathering will deliberate on critical issues of national importance, with a particular focus on security coordination and policing reforms. The Council of State session is scheduled for 1 p.m., followed by the Police Council meeting at 2 p.m.

The engagement underscores the Tinubu administration’s drive to strengthen intergovernmental collaboration and ensure a unified response to the nation’s complex security challenges.

Observers see the back-to-back meetings as a reflection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s proactive governance style leveraging institutional dialogue to craft solutions to the country’s pressing security needs.

With the Council of State comprising past presidents, vice presidents, governors, and key officials, the forum provides a rare convergence of experience and authority, one that could help shape new strategies for peace, order, and sustainable national security.
