The waters of Lagos shimmered with excitement over the weekend as Team Brazil made history, clinching its first-ever E1 Series victory at the Lagos Grand Prix a groundbreaking event that marked Africa’s debut on the all-electric powerboat racing circuit.
Led by the dynamic duo of Timmy Hansen and Leva Millere-Hagin, Team Brazil delivered a near-perfect performance, dominating from the group stages through to a thrilling finale. Their speed, precision, and teamwork secured them 38 points from the Lagos race, propelling their overall championship tally to an impressive 89 points.
Trailing them were Team Blue Rising, who snatched second place after a strong comeback, and Team Drogba, whose consistency earned them a hard-fought third. In a surprising twist, fan favourites Team Rafa and Team Brady named after global icons Rafael Nadal and Tom Brady missed out on the podium, leaving fans stunned.
Held on October 5 and 6 at Victoria Island, the E1 Lagos GP wasn’t just a race, it was a celebration of innovation and sustainability. The event brought the glamour of global motorsport to African shores, showcasing cutting-edge electric powerboats designed to combine performance with environmental responsibility.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who attended the finale, hailed the championship as a milestone moment for the city and continent.
“Hosting the E1 Grand Prix is not just about sport,” he said. “It’s about innovation, environmental responsibility, and putting Lagos on the global map for future-focused development.”
Beyond the roaring engines and flying spray, the E1 Lagos GP captured a new vision for motorsport one that embraces technology without sacrificing the planet.
