Five people were killed on Friday night when a Dangote Cement truck allegedly rammed into a tricycle at Alapoka village along the Papalanto–Ilaro Road in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The crash, which occurred around 8:30 p.m., involved an unregistered tricycle and a Dangote truck with registration number GRZ 767 XA.

Spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday.

According to him, preliminary investigations indicated that the accident was caused by brake failure on the part of the truck.

“A fatal road traffic accident occurred at Alapoka Village, Papalanto–Ilaro Road, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State on Friday at 8:25 p.m. The tricycle was conveying five people, and sadly, all five died on the spot,” Akinbiyi said.

Eyewitnesses said the truck driver was unaware of the crash until the tricycle and all its passengers had been crushed beneath the vehicle’s tyres.

TRACE officials, led by Acting Head Adedayo Omonayajo and Ilaro Divisional Commander Salako Idowu, arrived at the scene for rescue operations, which were briefly disrupted by angry residents.

The intervention of the Amotekun Corps eventually restored calm and allowed emergency teams to continue their work.

“The presumed dead were taken to the morgue by Federal Road Safety Corps officials,” Akinbiyi added.
