In a landmark achievement for Nigeria’s education sector, a renowned educationist Mr Seyi Anifowose has secured a Guinness World Record for organizing the largest gathering of teachers in a single location. The record-breaking event, which drew thousands of educators from across the country, highlights the growing recognition of the teaching profession and its pivotal role in nation-building.
The gathering took place at the National Stadium, Abuja, on Thursday, with over 52,000 teachers in attendance, surpassing previous records globally. Representatives from Guinness World Records were on-site to verify attendance, document the event, and certify the achievement.
Speaking at the ceremony,Mr Seyi Anifowose said:
“This is more than a record; it is a celebration of teachers the unsung heroes of our society. Their dedication shapes the future of our children and, by extension, the nation.”
The event underscores the importance of teachers in driving quality education. According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS, 2024), Nigeria has over 1.2 million registered teachers, with a significant number employed in public schools. However, challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, delayed salaries, and limited professional development opportunities have long affected the sector.
“This gathering is a message that teachers matter. Their work must be recognized, supported, and celebrated,” the organizer said.

“I feel honored to be part of this record-breaking event,” said Mrs. Fatima Bello, a primary school teacher from Kaduna. “It reminds us that our work is appreciated, and we are not alone in the challenges we face.”
Another attendee, Mr. Chukwuemeka Okafor, highlighted the motivational impact: “Seeing thousands of teachers together inspires us to continue delivering quality education despite the difficulties.”
The federal Ministry of Education sent a delegation to witness the event, emphasizing the government’s commitment to supporting educators. A spokesperson for the ministry said:
“The ministry applauds this initiative, which not only sets a global record but also underscores the central role teachers play in national development. We hope this inspires more investment in teacher welfare and education infrastructure.”
The Guinness World Records certificate, presented at the event, officially recognized Nigeria for hosting the largest teachers’ gathering in history. The record is expected to boost the country’s international profile in the field of education and inspire similar initiatives across Africa and beyond.
Beyond setting a world record, the event provided workshops, seminars, and motivational talks aimed at enhancing teaching skills and professional growth.
