Award-winning Nigerian Afrobeats star, Oluwatobiloba Daniel Anidugbe, popularly known as Kizz Daniel, has strongly denied claims that his bank accounts were frozen over an alleged €200,000 debt. The singer described the reports as completely false and an attempt to malign his name and career.
The rumours, which circulated widely across social media platforms and several online blogs earlier this week, alleged that the “Buga” crooner had been dragged to court and had a ruling entered against him, resulting in the freezing of his accounts until the purported sum was paid. However, in an official statement issued by his legal team on Thursday, Kizz Daniel firmly dismissed the reports as baseless and fabricated.
“There is no such legal case or judgment against Kizz Daniel. No court has ordered the freezing of his accounts, and the claims of a €200,000 debt are entirely false,” the statement read. “We urge the public, fans, and media partners to disregard these unfounded rumours. They are nothing but a calculated attempt to damage the reputation of an artist who has worked tirelessly to build his brand.”
The statement also emphasised the dangers of misinformation and called on media houses and social commentators to verify facts before publication. Kizz Daniel’s management stated that while the singer is focused on his ongoing projects and international performances, it had become necessary to set the record straight due to the volume of traction the false story had garnered online.
Although the source of the rumour remains unclear, the speed with which it spread triggered widespread concern among fans and industry watchers. Several blogs ran unverified headlines, some even attributing the alleged debt to contract violations, though none provided concrete evidence or official documentation. As of now, no legal authority or financial institution has confirmed any court case or judgment involving the artist.
This isn’t the first time Kizz Daniel has had to address misinformation surrounding his brand. The singer, known for his meticulous approach to his image and career, has often kept a low profile outside his music. However, in recent years, as his global profile has risen, so too has the intensity of scrutiny and rumour around his personal and professional life.
The artist is currently preparing for a series of international shows and recently hinted at new music releases expected later this year. With his recent statement, his team reaffirmed that he remains focused on his craft and committed to delivering music that resonates with fans across the world.
While Kizz Daniel has taken steps to clear the air, the incident serves as another reminder of the growing need for responsible journalism and digital content sharing in the entertainment industry. As the Afrobeats scene continues its global expansion, so too must efforts to protect artists from the damaging effects of false reporting.
