With the 2027 general elections on the horizon, key stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State have vowed to reclaim power from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and ensure President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.

At a closed-door strategy meeting in Abuja on Thursday, former APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, and House of Representatives Appropriations Committee Chairman Hon. Abubakar Bichi led party leaders in mapping out plans to consolidate the APC’s growing strength in the state.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, Ganduje stressed that APC remains united despite losing the 2023 gubernatorial race. He praised President Tinubu’s policies, saying they have brought major infrastructure and economic benefits to Kano.

“Since after the election, our party has remained solid,” Ganduje said. “Because of Mr. President’s good policies and our political dexterity, we have been able to attract key politicians from other parties. We will continue to work hard to ensure victory in 2027.”

Deputy Senate President Jibrin also lauded the administration’s achievements, particularly in infrastructure development and federal appointments that favour Kano and northern Nigeria. He called on APC supporters to mobilise for the ongoing voter registration exercise to secure a strong turnout in the next polls.

House Appropriations Chairman Bichi dismissed claims that Tinubu has neglected the North, pointing to key projects like the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano expressway, the Kano–Maiduguri road sections, and the soon-to-be-launched $1 billion Kano light rail project as evidence of federal commitment.

“In 2023, Kano gave Mr. President 600,000 votes. In 2027, we will do even better — and deliver the state for APC from the governorship to the National Assembly,” Bichi pledged.

With Kano’s status as Nigeria’s most populous state and a traditional battleground in presidential elections, Thursday’s meeting signaled APC’s intent to mount an aggressive campaign to reclaim control and deepen its influence ahead of 2027.
