Security analyst Dr. Yahuza Getso has raised concern over the growing spread of illegal arms in Nigeria, warning that the situation could worsen if authorities fail to act quickly.
Dr. Getso spoke on the Spotlight programme on S24 Television, where he discussed Nigeria’s rising security challenges.
He said the steady flow of small arms and light weapons into criminal hands continues to fuel insecurity across many parts of the country.

“The rate at which arms are spreading in Nigeria is alarming. If care is not taken, more weapons could end up in the wrong hands than in official armories,” he warned.
Dr. Getso noted that no country enjoys perfect security. However, he said governments must constantly strengthen their security systems to respond to new threats.
He urged authorities to tighten border control, stop the illegal movement of weapons, and improve intelligence gathering.
The security expert also called for stronger cooperation among security agencies, policymakers, and communities to tackle the growing threat of illegal arms in Nigeria.
