Guterres Urges Global Action to Advance Gender Equality

Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, has renewed calls for stronger global action to advance gender equality.

He said protecting women’s rights and investing in girls remain among the most effective ways to build a better world.

Guterres noted that progress on gender equality has been slow and uneven across many parts of the world.

According to him, the international community must take concrete steps to close existing gaps and ensure equal opportunities for women and girls.

He stressed that gender equality is essential for sustainable development, peace and economic growth.

The UN chief also highlighted the growing role of women and girls in shaping societies.

He said women are contributing significantly to leadership, education, innovation and community development.

Guterres urged governments, institutions and communities to support policies that empower women and remove barriers that limit their opportunities.

He concluded that the world must work together to create systems that protect women’s rights and promote equality.

“Women and girls are changing the world,” he said.

“Let’s change the world for women and girls.”
