The Movement for the Emancipation of Nigeria (MEN) has called on the Federal Government to discontinue all charges against the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, and ensure his immediate release from detention.

In a statement signed by its leader, Comrade General Solomon Dalung, the group said Kyari’s continued prosecution despite recent presidential pardons for convicted offenders—including drug traffickers, kidnappers, and fraudsters—amounts to “a grave injustice and mockery of fairness.”

MEN argued that many of the individuals granted clemency were apprehended by Kyari and his team during operations against organised crime. The group described his detention as “a double standard that undermines the integrity of Nigeria’s justice system.”

“The recent wave of presidential amnesties has effectively emptied the moral and legal basis for Kyari’s continued detention,” the statement read. “Justice demands consistency, and equity demands that mercy must not be reserved for the guilty while punishment is sustained against the righteous.”

The group urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Attorney-General of the Federation to intervene in the case, stating that failure to do so would “set a dangerous precedent that discourages public officers from dedicating themselves to the fight against crime.”

Kyari, a former commander of the Police Intelligence Response Team, has been facing prosecution over alleged involvement in drug trafficking and other related offences.
