Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has launched the second batch of 590 beneficiaries under the state’s ongoing 1,001 Postgraduate Foreign and Domestic Scholarship Programme, aimed at strengthening the state’s investment in education and human capital development.

According to a statement by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, a total of 350 students will study in foreign universities, while 240 will pursue postgraduate degrees in Nigerian institutions.

Governor Yusuf said the programme, originally initiated by Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, was revived by his administration to equip Kano youths with global academic and professional exposure.

He disclosed that 418 students benefited in the first phase of the scholarship scheme at a total cost of ₦5 billion, noting that all have successfully completed their studies, with several securing employment opportunities abroad.

“This second phase involving 350 foreign and 240 domestic postgraduate students marks another milestone in our journey to build a strong resource base that will position Kano as a hub of excellence and progress,” the governor said.

Governor Yusuf congratulated the new beneficiaries for their academic merit and moral standing, urging them to remain disciplined and to serve as worthy ambassadors of Kano State and Nigeria.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to education, adding that the state allocated 31% of its 2025 budget to the sector — the highest in Kano’s history.

“Education remains the foundation of progress, innovation, and prosperity in our state. We will continue to prioritize it to secure a brighter future for our youths,” Governor Yusuf stated.
