Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to empowering women through the monthly N50,000 start-up capital programme designed to support women in genuine need.
The Governor made this known during the October edition of the Monthly Women Empowerment Programme held on Tuesday at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano.
According to a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Governor expressed concern over irregularities in previous empowerment exercises, where beneficiaries were often relatives, friends, or existing business owners connected to officials responsible for selection.
Governor Yusuf announced the introduction of a new computerized system to ensure transparency and efficiency in managing the list of beneficiaries, thereby preventing the errors of the past.

At the event, the Governor personally presented N50,000 start-up capital to 20 women representing the 44 local government areas of the state. In total, 5,200 women benefited from the initiative, with 200 beneficiaries each drawn from the eight metropolitan local governments, and 100 each from the remaining rural councils.
He urged the beneficiaries to invest the funds wisely to improve their livelihoods and support their families.
Governor Yusuf commended the local government chairmen for their cooperation and tasked them to ensure that disbursement committees execute their duties with transparency and accountability.
In her remarks, the State ALGON Chairperson, Hajiya Sa’adatu Yushau Soja, thanked the Governor for prioritizing women in his empowerment programmes and assured him of continued support from the beneficiaries.
