Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has inaugurated the Jigawa State Council on Nutrition 774, pledging to personally chair the body to ensure coordinated, results-driven action in the state’s fight against malnutrition.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony held in Dutse, Governor Namadi said the council comprises commissioners from key ministries whose mandates align with nutrition and public health.
He emphasized that the council will serve as a multi-sectoral platform to harmonize nutrition programmes and policies across the state’s 27 local government areas.
The event was attended by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Health, Office of the Vice President, Mrs. Uju Rochas Anwuka, who outlined the vision and mission of the Nutrition 774 Initiative — a national strategy aimed at improving nutrition outcomes through local-level interventions.

Governor Namadi highlighted ongoing nutrition-focused programmes in Jigawa, noting that the state’s flagship Masaki Programme has reached over 1.3 million people through grassroots awareness and education campaigns on nutrition and child health.
“Through the Masaki Programme, I’ve seen first-hand how knowledge is transforming lives — mothers learning, families changing, and children growing stronger,” Namadi said.
He added that 600 women have been empowered under the Tom Brown Supplement Programme to produce affordable, locally sourced nutritious food in partnership with NAFDAC.
According to the Governor, Jigawa State allocates ₦250 million annually for Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) in collaboration with UNICEF, while the State House of Assembly contributes an additional ₦300 million to bolster community-level interventions.
Governor Namadi explained that the newly inaugurated council will coordinate all nutrition-related programmes across ministries, departments, and agencies to ensure efficiency and sustainability.
“The new Jigawa State Council on Nutrition 774 will coordinate all these efforts across ministries and sectors. I’ll personally chair the Council to make sure every action counts — from planning to delivery,” he affirmed.
