The Member representing Yamaltu Deba Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Inuwa Garba, has held a strategic meeting with senior officials of the Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) to address the rising threat from hippopotamuses in parts of the local government area.
Garba said the meeting focused on finding practical and lasting solutions to the growing incidents involving the animals. He noted that the attacks have continued to endanger lives and destroy farmlands in several communities.
According to the lawmaker, many residents, especially farmers, have raised serious concerns about the situation. The presence of hippopotamuses in nearby water bodies has disrupted farming activities and threatened livelihoods.

During the meeting, the parties reviewed the scale of the problem and discussed coordinated measures to prevent further loss of lives. They also explored ways to protect farms and support affected communities.
Garba, who chairs the House Committee on Science and Engineering, emphasized that the safety of residents remains a top priority.
He assured constituents of his commitment to working closely with HYPPADEC and other relevant authorities to implement effective solutions.
The lawmaker expressed optimism that sustained collaboration and the necessary support would help provide lasting solutions to the challenge.
He also prayed for divine guidance in efforts aimed at protecting the lives and livelihoods of people in Yamaltu Deba.
