Residents of Gombe and Bauchi states have raised concerns over the fate of the Kolmani oil project. They are calling on the Federal Government to revive activities at the site.
The concern follows a recent documentary by Trust TV, which renewed public attention on the stalled project. Many residents described the situation as alarming, given the high expectations after the oil discovery in the Kolmani axis.
Eyewitnesses say activities at the site have declined since the current administration took office. They claim operators have removed heavy machinery used for exploration and development, raising fears that authorities may have abandoned the project.
“We were hopeful this project would transform our communities, but what we see now is discouraging,” a resident said.
Community members also recalled a promise by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during a visit to the Gombe Emir’s Palace. He assured them that the Kolmani oil project would continue.
However, residents say the situation on the ground tells a different story. They also report rising insecurity in the area.
“Since activities slowed down, insecurity has started increasing. The government needs to act fast,” another resident said.
The Kolmani oil field sits on the border between Bauchi and Gombe states. Many saw it as a major step for Nigeria’s inland oil exploration.
Its slowdown has sparked anxiety among host communities. They had expected economic growth, job opportunities, and better infrastructure.
Residents now urge the Federal Government to fulfill its promises, restore operations, and address the growing security concerns.
