Gombe Geographic Information Systems (GOGIS) has formally received tender bids from multiple companies for the Street Naming and House Numbering Project in Gombe Metropolis a key step toward implementing an official addressing system in the city. This move is part of broader urban governance reforms led by Governor Inuwa Yahaya.
The bidding process covers two lots: Lot 1: Production and installation of durable street signage and visible house numbers throughout the Gombe Metropolis, in accordance with the Nigerian National Street Addressing Standards and Guidelines (NIPOST, 2017). Lot 2: Capture of comprehensive geospatial data and establishment of a Digital Addressing Infrastructure to support the new system.
According to Dr. Kabiru Usman Hassan, Director‑General of GOGIS formal addressing system will allow every street and property to be easily identified and located. The project is expected to improve emergency response (security, health, and fire services). It will also support better governance, revenue generation, business logistics, and urban planning.
Until now, many residents in Gombe have struggled with informal ways of describing locations, often using landmarks like behind a filling station because there has been no proper street‑naming and house‑numbering system.
The tender opening is seen as a critical step toward a modern, organized, and digitally enabled city, and GOGIS has pledged that the bidding process will be transparent and professionally conducted.
