Former Commissioner of Police in Katsina and Kano States, CP Mohammed Wakili (Rtd), has urged Nigerian youths to avoid drug abuse, especially during the festive period, describing it as a deadly threat.
Wakili spoke to an S24 Reporter in Gombe State while answering questions about life after retirement and his continued interest in public matters.
The retired police chief said he stayed committed to fighting illicit drug use throughout his years in service and worked hard to reduce the problem.

“I believe I did my best while in service to fight drug abuse and make sure the right steps were taken,” he said.
Wakili also called on security agencies, community leaders, and policymakers to do more to address drug abuse across the country. He warned that the recent rise in insecurity in some parts of Nigeria may be linked to substance abuse among young people.
He said that although he has retired from active service, he still speaks out on issues affecting youth and communities.
“As we approach the festive season, drug use tends to increase. Authorities must stay alert and do more to address this challenge,” he added.
Wakili then advised youths to act responsibly and avoid habits that could harm their health, safety, and future.
