The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to building an inclusive, skills-driven and future-ready education system, positioning Nigerian youths as key partners in national development.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, stated this on Friday at the 2026 International Day of Education celebration held in Abuja, with the theme, “The Power of Youth in Co-creating Education.”
Alausa described education as the foundation of civilisation, peace and sustainable development, while acknowledging persistent challenges confronting the sector, including limited access to quality education, skills mismatch in the labour market and gender disparities.
He said the Federal Government’s education reforms are anchored on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises education as a catalyst for economic growth and national renewal through increased funding, innovation and strategic partnerships.
According to the Minister, the Education Transformation Roadmap currently being implemented focuses on curriculum reform, digital learning expansion, teacher capacity development, strengthened Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), improved school infrastructure and the implementation of a National Anti-Bullying Policy.
He emphasised that Nigeria’s youthful population presents a strategic advantage and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to achieving Sustainable Development Goal Four (SDG 4), which targets inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all.
The event also highlighted the role of young people as co-creators of learning solutions and drivers of innovation within the education sector.
