The Federal Government has announced the commencement of applications for the 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Overseas Scholarship Scheme, offering Nigerian students the opportunity to pursue postgraduate studies abroad.
According to a statement shared by the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Social Media, the scholarship covers MSc and PhD programmes in oil and gas–related disciplines at institutions in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Malaysia.
The PTDF said the scheme provides comprehensive support, including tuition fees, accommodation, return flight tickets, living allowances, health insurance, and bench fees where applicable. The initiative aims to strengthen indigenous capacity and provide access to world-class research and training facilities.
MSc applicants must possess at least a Second Class Lower degree, have completed the NYSC, and meet O-Level requirements, while PhD candidates are required to submit a research proposal of up to five pages outlining their study objectives and methodology.
For UK-based PhD applicants, the programme will operate under a split-site arrangement, allowing candidates to conduct research at the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna, and selected UK universities.
The PTDF cautioned that the scholarship is highly competitive, adding that applicants must ensure their National Identity Number (NIN) is verified before applying. The application deadline is February 27, 2026, and submissions must be made online via the PTDF scholarship portal.
