FG Declares March 19 and 20 Public Holidays for Eid-ul-Fitr

The Federal Government has declared Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20, 2026 as public holidays.

The holidays are to mark the celebration of Eid al-Fitr at the end of Ramadan.

The announcement was made by Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior.

The statement was issued by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Magdalene Ajani.

Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslims across Nigeria for successfully completing the Ramadan fasting period.

He urged Muslims to sustain the virtues of love, generosity, peace, tolerance and sacrifice learned during Ramadan.

The minister also encouraged Nigerians to use the period to pray for peace and unity.

He said prayers for continued national progress remain important during the festive period.

Tunji-Ojo advised citizens to celebrate responsibly and maintain peaceful relations with neighbours.

He also encouraged Nigerians to show kindness to the less privileged during the celebrations.

The government expressed hope that the Eid festivities would strengthen unity among Nigerians.
