The Federal Government, through the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), has commenced the implementation of a N32,000 pension increment for retirees under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS). This adjustment, which includes a fixed N32,000 increase along with percentage increases of 10.66% and 12.95% for different categories of pensioners, will reflect in the September 2025 payroll cycle.

The implementation follows the partial release of N20.188 billion from the N45 billion emergency fund approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This funding supports the revised pension rates and aligns with the government’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of senior citizens.

In addition to the pension increment, PTAD has announced other welfare initiatives for retirees, including:

Pension Harmonisation: Standardising pension rates across all DBS retirees.

Health Insurance Coverage: Enrolment of all DBS pensioners into the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to ensure access to essential healthcare services.

These measures are part of a broader reform agenda aimed at improving the welfare of senior citizens, as endorsed by President Tinubu.

Approximately 832,000 retirees are set to benefit from these adjustments, which are expected to provide significant financial relief and improve their quality of life. PTAD has expressed its commitment to continue implementing these reforms and ensuring the timely payment of pension entitlements.

The commencement of the N32,000 pension increment reflects the Federal Government’s dedication to safeguarding the welfare and entitlements of DBS pensioners in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda. PTAD remains committed to enhancing the lives of retirees through continued reforms and support.
