Fear Grips Niger State After Deadly Village Assault

Gunmen have killed at least 20 people in Niger State after attacking two rural communities, the assault has raised fresh concerns about insecurity in northern Nigeria.

The attack took place in Bagna and Erena villages in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State. It happened in the early hours of Tuesday.

Residents said gunmen stormed the communities and opened fire on villagers.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers arrived on motorbikes. They shot at residents and looted homes.

The gunmen operated for several hours. Many villagers fled to nearby communities to escape the violence.

Conflicting Death Toll Figures

Residents said more than 20 people were killed in the attack.

Police confirmed fewer deaths. They said some victims included members of a local security team.

Easter Violence Across Northern Nigeria

The Niger attack comes amid a wave of violence during the Easter period.

Other attacks were reported in Benue, Kaduna, and Borno states. Dozens of people, including civilians and security personnel, were killed.

Security experts say the attacks show growing threats in the region.

Banditry, insurgency, and communal clashes continue to affect many communities. Rural areas remain the most vulnerable.

Authorities say they are working to restore peace, however, residents are demanding stronger security presence. They want urgent action to prevent further attacks.
