Former Pension Reform Task Force boss, Dr. Abdulrasheed Maina, collapsed on Tuesday evening while trying to access his office premises in Abuja, Nigeria.
According to his media aide, the fall was caused by complications from an untreated knee injury, which made him lose balance and hit his head on a staircase.
Medical personnel at the scene gave immediate first aid before rushing him to a private hospital in Abuja for urgent treatment.
Doctors are closely monitoring Maina’s condition. His family has appealed to the public for prayers, understanding, and privacy during this critical time.
A preliminary medical assessment stated that a medical air evacuation could be arranged if his condition doesn’t stabilise soon.
Maina once led the now-defunct Pension Reform Task Team — a group at the centre of one of Nigeria’s most controversial pension sector scandals.
In 2021, he was convicted of money laundering tied to pension funds and sentenced to eight years in prison. That sentence was later upheld by the Court of Appeal.
Maina was released from prison in 2025 after serving part of his term, following statutory remission for good conduct.
His collapse has drawn concern from well-wishers and Nigerians alike due to his high-profile role in pension reform and corruption controversies.
The family says more updates will be shared as developments unfold, and they continue to watch his health closely.
