The Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled April 1st for the re-arraignment of former Jigawa State governor Sule Lamido, his two sons, and two associates companies, following their absence in court today.

The EFCC accuses the defendants of laundering N1.35bn in kickbacks from state contracts between 2007 and 2015.

After years of litigation including a dismissed no case submission and a jurisdictional dispute the Supreme Court ruled on January 16, 2026, that the trial must proceed in Abuja.

Defense counsel blamed short notice for the defendants’ absence, promising their attendance for the upcoming date. The EFCC is also seeking to have the original trial judge, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, reassigned to the case.
