Former Benue State Governor and senator Gabriel Suswam has officially resigned his membership from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Suswam’s decision was made public through a letter he personally signed and addressed to the PDP Chairman, Mbagber Council Ward, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.

In the letter, Suswam thanked the party for decades of opportunities  including roles as House of Representatives member, governor, and senator but said he could no longer remain in a party beset by persistent internal crises, leadership disputes, and unresolved conflicts.

He described the PDP as having once stood for cohesion and progressive opposition, but said it has now become plagued by deep dysfunction and endless internal disputes without a clear path to resolution.

Suswam expressed appreciation for the trust placed in him over the years and wished party members well, hoping the PDP one day finds consensus and renewal.

Suswam served as Benue governor from 2007 to 2015, later became a senator, and has been a long-time PDP stalwart but repeatedly voiced concerns over the party’s leadership and relevance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
