Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has been released from detention, bringing a major development in his ongoing legal battle.

However, while the news has sparked relief among his supporters and family, it comes at a deeply emotional time, as the family is mourning the death of his mother.

Bashir El-Rufai Confirms Release

His son, Bashir El-Rufai, confirmed the release through a social media post, where he expressed gratitude and relief after what he described as a difficult period.

He thanked supporters for standing by the family and described the moment as one of resilience.

“Alhamdulillah… Thank you all for all the support. Our family shall never forget these times,” he wrote.

Despite his release, Nasir El-Rufai still faces an ongoing legal case.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) arraigned him over allegations of corruption and abuse of office. Although he has denied the charges, the case remains before the court and will continue in the coming weeks.

Mother Dies in Egypt

At the same time, the family is grieving the loss of Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, who died in Egypt.

She had been living there with her son after he left office as governor of Kaduna State, and her passing represents a significant loss to the family.

Bello El-Rufai Confirms Passing

Her death was confirmed by another son, Bello El-Rufai, a member of the House of Representatives.

He shared the news via his verified social media platforms, offering prayers for her soul and appreciating the support from well-wishers.

Mixed Emotions for Family

As a result, the El-Rufai family is experiencing a moment of mixed emotions.

On one hand, they are celebrating his release. On the other hand, they are mourning the loss of their mother, making this a deeply emotional period for the family.

What This Means

Overall, the release of Nasir El-Rufai marks a significant turning point in his legal journey.

Going forward, attention will shift to the continuation of court proceedings, while the family prepares to lay their matriarch to rest.
