The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested five security operatives over an airport incident involving Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai.

The incident followed El-Rufai’s return from Egypt on February 12.

The DSS had reportedly attempted to arrest the former governor at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

A joint investigation was conducted by the DSS, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Federal Ministry of Aviation.

Authorities said five officers were detained after the probe.

Those detained include a police ASP, a DSS operative, an NIS assistant superintendent, and two Aviation Security officers.

Officials alleged the officers received bribes to facilitate unauthorized access to restricted airport areas.

They also accused them of obstructing a lawful security operation.

Authorities said the officers have confessed to the allegations.

The suspects have been handed over to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for prosecution.

Officials said other personnel who abused their uniforms without receiving bribes will face administrative sanctions.

El-Rufai has denied wrongdoing.

He described the developments as political witch-hunt.
