The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, and his deputy, Mani Mummuni, have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.
Deputy Governor Mummuni announced the decision on Monday during a meeting with members of the Zamfara State Executive Council in Gusau.
He said the leaders made the move after consulting key political stakeholders in the state. According to him, the decision will help the state government work more closely with the ruling party at the federal level.
The defection marks a major political move in Zamfara and may reshape the state’s political scene ahead of future elections.
Governor Lawal won the 2023 election under the PDP platform. His move to the APC could strengthen the ruling party’s influence in the North-West.
More details about the development may emerge in the coming hours.
