Residents of Daki Biyu in the Wuye district of Abuja have raised concerns over the impact of Band A electricity metering, describing it as financially burdensome amid rising living costs.

One of the affected residents, Halilu Muazu Abubakar, lamented that he was moved from Band C to Band A by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) without prior notice.

He described the decision as unfair, especially at a time when the government has removed subsidies from many essential sectors, leaving citizens to bear increased expenses.

However, Halilu explained that since his migration to Band A, electricity units now last less despite paying the same amount.

He added that the rapid depletion of units has placed additional financial strain on his household, making it difficult to cope.

He, therefore appealed to the government to introduce incentives and subsidies to cushion the hardship Nigerians face.

Noting that such support systems exist in many countries to protect citizens from rising utility costs.

Other residents in the area also called on relevant authorities to review the Band A classification and ensure that consumers are not unfairly burdened.
