The Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs, DCG Timi Bomodi, inspected a newly acquired fleet of patrol boats in Port Harcourt on Thursday.
The inspection aimed to finalise operational requirements and prepare the fleet for immediate deployment to strengthen Nigeria’s maritime security architecture.
DCG Bomodi conducted the visit alongside Eastern Marine Command Area Controller, Comptroller Anderson Jaja, reviewing training, infrastructure, and standard operational protocols.
According to a press release signed by Deputy Superintendent Joshua Iliya, the patrol boats are part of the Customs Service’s modernisation drive.

This initiative enhances enforcement capacity, secures maritime trade routes, and addresses persistent smuggling activities across Nigeria’s extensive waterways and economic corridors.
During the inspection, Bomodi emphasised combining advanced equipment with training and dedicated infrastructure to elevate operational effectiveness and maritime surveillance significantly.
He further highlighted collaboration with SeWa West Africa Ltd, ensuring specialised training, technical support, and establishment of a dedicated operational base.
The delegation also inspected the proposed Customs operating base in Port Harcourt, which will serve as the primary hub for patrol boats.
Comptroller Jaja commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, for prioritising maritime security through strategic asset acquisition and capacity building.
Jaja confirmed the Command’s readiness to deploy the patrol boats effectively, ensuring faster response times and improved monitoring across the Eastern maritime corridor.
He stressed that operational deployment of the fleet will strengthen enforcement, reduce smuggling, and protect maritime trade routes efficiently throughout the region.
DCG Bomodi concluded that the Nigeria Customs Service remains committed to modernising assets, building partnerships, and achieving sustainable maritime security nationwide through proactive measures.
