The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has highlighted the growing contributions of female officers as it joins the global community to mark International Women’s Day 2026.
The celebration, themed “Give to Gain,” showcases the expanding roles of women in national security, trade facilitation and institutional leadership within the Service.
Under the leadership of Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi, the NCS says it has created a more inclusive environment that supports the professional growth of female officers.
Women now occupy several strategic positions in the Service, including key leadership roles at the level of Deputy Comptroller-General (DCG) and Assistant Comptroller-General (ACG).
Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of Tariff and Trade, Caroline Niagwan, said female officers are playing a vital role in the Service’s modernisation drive.
According to her, women are contributing to digital transformation, data-driven decision-making and reforms aligned with Nigeria’s trade objectives under the African Continental Free Trade Area.
Similarly, DCG Finance, Administration and Technical Services, Kikelomo Adeola, emphasised the importance of investing in women through mentorship, training and career development opportunities.

Other senior officers, including DCG ICT/Modernisation Oluyomi Adebakin, encouraged younger officers to remain committed to professional growth.
At the command level, female leaders such as Comptrollers Hauwa Abubakar and Salamatu Atuluku highlighted mentorship and stakeholder engagement as key strategies for strengthening women’s participation in the Service.
The NCS also cited the 72-day cycling journey by Deputy Comptroller Akpevwe Ogboru from Nigeria to Belgium and back as a symbol of the increasing visibility and resilience of women in the Service.
