The Federal High Court in Abuja has discharged and acquitted former police officer Abba Kyari and two of his brothers.

Justice James Omotosho delivered the judgment in Court 8 on March 5.

The case involved allegations of asset declaration violations and money laundering.

The charges were filed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on behalf of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The case was filed under Charge No: FHC/ABJ/CR/408/2022.

Prosecutors brought 23 counts against Kyari and others.

However, the court ruled that the prosecution failed to prove the allegations beyond reasonable doubt.

Consequently, the judge discharged and acquitted Abba Kyari.

The court also cleared his brothers, Muhammed Baba Kyari and Ali Baba Kyari, of all charges.

The case lasted more than four years.

During that period, witnesses testified and evidence was presented before the court.

Kyari and the other defendants faced intense public scrutiny throughout the trial.

Meanwhile, another criminal case involving Kyari remains before the Federal High Court.

The matter is listed as Charge No: FHC/ABJ/CR/57/2022.

In that case, the prosecution has already closed its case.

The defence team is currently presenting its evidence before the court.

Further proceedings are expected as the trial continues.
