CGC Adeniyi Visits Emir of Gwandu, Strengthens Partnership

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Gwandu, Muhammadu Bashar, in Kebbi State.

The visit took place on Saturday, February 7, 2026, as part of efforts to deepen collaboration with traditional institutions.

Adeniyi said effective border security requires cooperation between enforcement agencies and community leaders.

He described traditional rulers as key partners in promoting lawful trade and discouraging smuggling in border communities.

The CGC reaffirmed Customs’ commitment to sustained engagement with the Gwandu Emirate Council.

He said collaboration would help curb cross-border crimes threatening national security and economic stability.

The Emir of Gwandu commended the Customs leadership for the visit.

He pledged continued support for Customs and other security agencies operating in Kebbi State.

The monarch urged border residents to share credible information to combat smuggling and related crimes.

During the visit, Adeniyi inspected projects at the Nigeria Customs Service Kebbi Area Command.

He commissioned an e-learning centre and a five-aside football pitch.

The facilities were named after Adeniyi and retired Deputy Comptroller-General Bello Jibo.

Addressing officers, the CGC stressed discipline, professionalism, and strict adherence to transit regulations.

He warned against compromise in handling transit cargo.

Adeniyi described Kebbi as a strategic command for revenue generation and anti-smuggling operations.

He said smugglers use the state for illegal export of petroleum products.

The CGC disclosed presidential approval for reopening the Tsamiya border.

He said the reopening demands higher responsibility from officers.

Adeniyi also stressed inter-agency and cross-border cooperation.

The visit ended with a friendly football match to boost morale.
