Pulka and Benesheikh, Borno State Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents launched coordinated night attacks on Pulka in Gwoza LGA and Benesheikh, the headquarters of Kaga LGA, on April 7–8, 2026. The attackers killed scores of people, including civilians, a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and security personnel, sources said.

During the attacks, the insurgents set ablaze equipment and machinery belonging to Decency’s, a road construction company. As a result, they caused widespread destruction across both communities. Pulka, which hosts thousands of displaced people from Ngoshe, suffered the most damage.

Meanwhile, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume (Borno South) condemned the attacks and urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to act swiftly. The president recently declared a State of Emergency in the security sector. Ndume warned that both civilians and security operatives remain under constant threat. “Immediate and effective intervention is required,” he said.

In response, authorities have begun investigations to determine the full extent of casualties and damage. However, many residents remain in fear due to ongoing insurgent activity in the area.

Borno State remains a major hotspot in Nigeria’s fight against insurgency. Over the past decade, repeated attacks have caused mass displacement, deaths, and destruction of infrastructure. Therefore, analysts warn that without sustained security efforts, communities like Pulka and Benesheikh will continue to face serious threats.
