The Bayelsa State Government has taken over the medical treatment of victims involved in a road accident along the Sagbama-Ekeremor Road.

The incident occurred around Toru-Orua community in the state.

The Commissioner for Health, Professor Seiyefa Brisibe, said Governor Douye Diri directed the health ministry to provide urgent medical support.

He stated that the governor instructed medical teams to ensure proper care for all victims.

Professor Brisibe dismissed reports claiming that ten people died in the accident. He clarified that only two fatalities were recorded from the crash involving an 18-seater bus.

He explained that other victims were rescued by government ambulance teams.

The teams were deployed along the Sagbama-Ekeremor axis during the burial of the late Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, in Ofoni.

The Health Commissioner said the injured victims were taken to Sagbama General Hospital and Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, Okolobiri. He added that they are responding positively to treatment and remain in stable condition.
