The Bauchi State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening adult education and literacy programmed, pledging to recruit more staff to boost service delivery across the state.

The Commissioner for Education, Abdulkadir Ibrahim, made this known during a familiarization visit to the Bauchi State Agency for Mass Education (BASAME) in Bauchi, where he expressed satisfaction with the agency’s performance.

He commended BASAME for its role in promoting literacy, particularly among women at the grassroots, and for advancing skill acquisition initiatives that contribute to community development.

According to the commissioner, the agency’s efforts in providing access to basic education and vocational training are critical to improving livelihoods and empowering underserved populations.

He assured that the state government would continue to support BASAME’s programmed, including the recruitment of additional permanent staff to enhance efficiency and expand outreach.

Ibrahim also urged residents of the state to take full advantage of the agency’s initiatives, especially literacy classes and vocational training programmed designed to equip individuals with practical skills.

Earlier, the Executive Secretary of BASAME, Nasiru Muhammad, highlighted the agency’s achievements, noting a significant increase in enrolment in primary and junior secondary schools, particularly in areas with established literacy centres.

He added that the agency has made notable progress in empowering women and girls through income-generating activities and vocational training schemes.

Among its recent initiatives, Muhammad cited the introduction of hairdressing training at the Hajia Aisha Bala Muhammad Alternative High School for Girls, alongside the distribution of learning materials to support students.

Despite the progress, he appealed to the government to recruit more staff and provide a permanent site for the agency to further strengthen its operations.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the agency’s Information Officer, Dahiru Adamu.
