Oba Kehinde Falodun, the traditional ruler of Agamọ Community in Akure North, was killed Wednesday evening after resisting a kidnap attempt by 10 armed men.
Reports indicate the assailants resorted to using a blunt object after gunfire failed to harm the monarch.
Gunmen stormed the palace to abduct the Oba, he was later found dead nearby with gunshot wounds.
PPRO Abayomi Jimoh confirmed that tactical teams, Amotekun, and local hunters are currently combing the bushes to track the fleeing suspects.
This follows a string of local insecurity, including the recent kidnapping of a pregnant woman in the neighboring Ayede community.
Surveillance has been intensified in Akure North to prevent further unrest and apprehend the perpetrators.
