Violent bandits have claimed six lives in Tungan-Makeri, while also setting a police station on fire in nearby Konkoso, Niger State.
The assault on Tungan-Makeri began around 8 p.m. Friday, as over 200 armed assailants stormed the village, firing indiscriminately and burning homes. For hours, they wreaked havoc, leaving six dead and dozens displaced.
An eyewitness from Zagatina, along the route, recounted seeing about 41 motorcycles packed with attackers, some carrying women and children.
After the Tungan-Makeri attack, the bandits struck Konkoso on Wednesday morning, moving with ease and no apparent security presence.
During this raid, the police station in Konkoso was torched, escalating fears in the area.
Both Tungan-Makeri and Konkoso are key towns in Borgu LGA, raising alarm about the attackers’ growing audacity.
Some residents reported spotting an Air Force aircraft near Tungan-Makeri post-attack, which they believe may have forced the bandits to retreat.
As of now, the Niger State Police Command has not yet confirmed the events. The attack has reignited fears about security in Borgu, with residents urgently calling for increased protection to prevent further tragedy.
