A prominent northern elder, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has raised fresh concerns about the state of the country, saying that “there is something clearly wrong with Nigeria.”

Speaking to newsmen in Abuja, Baba-Ahmed urged Nigerians to pray for the country’s leaders. He said the period is a time for deep reflection and a chance to seek God’s guidance for the nation.

According to him, Nigeria’s challenges, including economic hardship, insecurity, and poor governance, point to deeper problems that require moral and leadership reforms.

He said the fasting period gives citizens an opportunity to pray not only for themselves, but also for the healing of the country. “This is a time for reflection, for prayers, and for asking God to guide those entrusted with leadership,” he said.

Baba-Ahmed said citizens are facing hardship every day, and leaders must respond with sincerity, justice, and accountability. He warned that unless leaders change their approach, the gap between the government and the people will continue to grow.

He also urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and united. He said collective prayers and a renewed commitment to doing what is right can help move the country forward.

His remarks have triggered reactions from many Nigerians, with some agreeing that the country needs both spiritual support and practical solutions to its long-running problem
